Sankashti Chaturthi – Every lunar month of the Hindu calendar has a day designated as Sankashti Chaturthi, also known as Sankatahara Chaturthi, in honor of the Hindu god Ganesha. It is the fourth day of the Krishna Paksha on this day (the dark lunar phase or the waning fortnight of the moon). This Chaturthi is known as Angaraki Sankashti Chaturthi if it happens on a Tuesday. Among all Sankashti Chaturthi days, Angaraki Sankashti Chaturthi is regarded as being of utmost importance. Legends
The term sankashti Chaturthi denotes the day of lord Ganesha, the term emphasizes on the removal of vighna or problems. This day falls on Chaturthi or 4th day after the Purnima full moon of the Hindu lunar calendar month.
There is a legend related to this day. As per traditional stories, Ganesha was created by the goddess Parvati, who was the wife of Shiva. Parvati created Ganesh out of turmeric paste, she set that idol of Ganesha which was of turmeric paste at her door while she was bathing.
Ganesha who didn’t know about Shiva hindered his way to Parvati. Shiva got enraged and severed the head killing the boy. Paravati came back and when she came back she noticed her son died she got shattered and got enraged at Shiva, and curse Shiva for his tempered act.
Shiva gave promised to keep his son Alive, Brahma the creator of life asked shiva to bring the face of the first animal, and Shiva brought the head of the elephant as the elephant was the first that Shiva first observed.
Elephant head used to bring back the life of Ganesh. Shiva declared the boy called Ganesh.

Devotees rise early on Sankashti Chathurthi, take a bath, and announce their decision to observe this fast. They observe a full or partial fast all day long. Later that night, at They either go to a temple to take part in the puja at the time of moonrise or they perform the puja at home.
