No free yoga classes
What Is Dilli Ki Yogashala?
At the Delhi Secretariat on Monday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal introduced the “Dilli ki Yogshala” programme, which will start offering free yoga courses to residents of the nation’s capital in January 2022.
The Chief Minister added, “At our current capacity of 400 yoga instructors, at least 20,000 individuals in Delhi would practise Yoga under the Yogshala programme,” while addressing the audience during the session.
“The Delhi government has experimented with numerous forms of governance during the last seven years. We’re creating a brand-new public interest programme once more. We transformed the health sector and built many hospitals and Mohalla Clinics in Delhi “added Kejriwal.
The experiment, he said, goes “even further to prevent individuals in Delhi from getting sick and from needing treatment in the first place.”
The Chief Minister emphasised that yoga is India’s gift to the entire world and noted that many people in other nations also practise it, but we have lost sight of its significance in our daily lives.
In addition, Kejriwal stated “We had no idea how much our pupils would change after we introduced the Happiness Curriculum to government schools. However, parents have told us that they have noticed a shift and that their children are now more peaceful.”
“I am confident that everyone who attends these yoga lessons will move toward a calm existence and experience a notable improvement in their health once we get going,” he stated.
“Most people don’t practise yoga because they either don’t have somebody to teach them or the classes are excessively pricey and out of their price range,” the chief minister added. People will receive classes and teachers as part of the Dilli Ki Yogshala programme free of charge.
Free Yoga Classes Suspension
Manish Sisodia, the deputy chief minister, announced on Monday that the free yoga classes for citizens under the “Dilli Ki Yogshala” scheme will end as of Tuesday because government officials have been “threatened” to issue orders regarding the matter. This announcement comes amid a new standoff between the AAP government and Lieutenant-Governor V.K. Saxena.
Although the government has provided funding and the board of the Delhi Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research University wants the Yogshala to serve the needs of Delhi residents, an order has been issued to close it by frightening the staff. As of tomorrow, 590 yoga courses that had been held in Delhi parks would be discontinued, Mr Sisodia announced in a Hindi tweet.
Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister, introduced the “Dilli Ki Yogshala” programme in December of last year to offer free yoga instruction to all Delhi residents right in front of their homes. All they had to do was form a group of at least 25 individuals interested in learning yoga and sign up. The choice of an open area, such as a park or community centre, for the training, was also up to the participants.
Mr Sisodia added in a subsequent tweet on Monday: “My request to continue ‘Delhi ki Yogshala’ with the Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s consent was forwarded to L-G sahib. He hasn’t yet made a choice about it. However, officials have decided to halt the free yoga class in the interim.
However, according to insiders at the L-G office, no files requesting an extension of the programme have yet arrived. It is incorrect to claim that the L-G has not approved the extension of the programme because it is being discontinued, according to a message sent to reporters by sources at the L-G office. “L-G office has not yet received any file seeking permission for an extension of the yoga programme beyond October 31.”
The L-G House declined to make an official statement about the development when asked.
Mr Sisodia wrote the Secretary of the Directorate of Training and Technical Education last week regarding a decision to reportedly end the programme. Mr Sisodia met the L-G for the latter’s meeting later in the week.
