Easter Day Meaning and History

Easter Day History

Easter Day- The religious holiday of Easter celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ as described in the New Testament of the Bible. Although celebrated as the holiest day by both Christians and Orthodox Christians, it is a movable festival and is recognized by both denominations on separate days. Since Jesus Christ was crucified, it commemorates his resurrection three days later.

Easter, also known as Resurrection Day or Resurrection Day, is a festival that commemorates the resurrection of Jesus from the dead.

Let’s start with Pascha (Latin). It comes directly from Passover, the Hebrew word for Passover. Going back to the Hebrew Scriptures and the first Passover story, Moses told the Israelites to slaughter the Passover lamb and smear its blood on the door.

The Lord protected the Israelites from death and “allowed no destroyer to enter their houses to overthrow them.”

Meaning Of Easter Day

Easter Day- Easter, Latin Pasha, Greek Pasha, Jesus The main Christian festival commemorating Christ’s resurrection on the third day after his crucifixion. The earliest recorded observance of Easter celebrations dates back to the 2nd century AD, although the commemoration of Jesus’ resurrection probably took place before then.

The etymology of the English equivalent of Easter in German is uncertain. The view held by the Venerable Bede in the 8th century was that she was descended from, the Anglo-Saxon goddess of spring and fertility.

This view, similar to the view that links the origin of Christmas on December 25th with the pagan celebration of the winter solstice, assumes that Christians assigned pagan names and holidays to their supreme celebrations. Given the determination of Christians to oppose all forms of paganism (belief in multiple gods), this seems a rather dubious presumption.

Easter Customs

Like Christmas, Easter has accumulated many traditions. Some of them have little to do with Christian Easter but rather stem from folk customs. The custom of the Passover lamb fits both terms used for Jesus in the Bible (“Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world”).  the role of the lamb as a sacrificial animal in ancient Israel.

Easter is also heavily associated with the exodus of the Jews from Egypt, as depicted in the Old Testament and the Jewish Passover. The Last Supper, which took place the night before Jesus was arrested, is also related to these events.

The Sunday before Easter is called palm Sunday which commemorates the day Jesus arrived in Jerusalem.  On that day, his followers paid tribute to him by placing palm leaves at his feet. In many churches, Easter begins on Holy Saturday night, just before Easter Sunday. This service is known as the Easter Vigil.

Easter Day- According to the Eastern Orthodox Church, Great Lent, which begins on Clean Monday, 40 days before Easter, marks the beginning of Easter rituals. His 40 days without Sundays are a time to repent, fast, and commemorate the biblical events leading up to Jesus’s persecution, crucifixion, death, and resurrection. The last week is called Holy Week and ends with Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday, and Easter.
