Error 302 and Error 307:
· A 307 Temporary Redirect is an HTTP status that suggests that the user’s demanded URL has been temporarily moved and will be returned soon.
· 302s were usually used to build temporary redirects before the release of HTTP 1.1. However, as a valid momentary redirect, they were replaced by 307s. If HTTPS is enforced, 307 Temporary Redirects are also used as an internal redirect.
· The HTTP has 2 significant editions: 1.0 and 1.1, which govern how URLs work. 302s have been known as “Moved Temporarily” in the 1.0 version. It was altered to mean “Found” with the release of the 1.1 version. When you’re redeveloping or modifying your website, you should be using this type of redirect.
· The HTTP 1.1 successor to 302 reroutes is the 307 Temporary Redirect. In contrast to the fairly vague 302 redirects, 307 reroutes imply that the user’s requested URL has indeed been converted to a temporary location and will be returned soon. The 307-status code, unlike the 302, ensures that the demanding technique will not be altered.
ERROR 302 redirects you when you:
- want the content of the site you’re trying to redirect to appear in search results alongside the URL you’re redirecting to;
- wish to redirect traffic to a new website or page for a limited time;
- want to try out jeopardizing new documents and have some feedback from customers without compromising your rankings.
Whereas, Error 307 redirects you when:
- when you’re certain the relocation is only transitory (e.g., website maintenance);
- if the site has already been identified as 1.1 interoperable by the search engines.
CONCLUSION:
Redirecting one URL to another is a common practice. The 307 status codes are the most common method of doing so.
If you’re making a radical shift to your URL, a 301 redirect is the way to go. However, if your site is inaccessible due to maintenance or other reasons, 307 Transient Reroute is the best option. In other words, only use a 307 Temporary Redirect if you’re sure that the entire movie is only temporary.
