It is told that long ago there was a sage by name of Katyayani she was a huge devotee of goddess Shakti and he spent days and nights in prayer and always wish to for goddess Shakti we born as his daughter during that period evil demon and Mahishasur was creating great trouble for gods as the day went by, he gains more power and gods were increasing the worried about him and went to goddess Shakti and ask her to save them from the wrath of Mahishasur.
God is shifty and decided to take birth on earth and under the reign of Mahishasur, granted the wish of sage was born on earth as his daughter Shri give up to be a strong beautiful fighter and came to be known as Katyayani.
A fierce battle has been initiated between Katyayani and Mahishasur she managed to defeat his demon soldiers and even killed most of them when Katyayani and Mahishasur came face to face he transformed himself into a buffalo this prove to be a real challenge for Katyayani to fight him however and climb on to his back he was surprised by this and tried very hard to shake her off but fail need and placed her foot on the back of Mahishasur net pierced him with her Trishul cut his head off.
Which gave limelight over the Katyayani significance and mark the sixth day of Navratri as the day of victory and the women warriors as Katyayani on this 1 October there will be the sixth day of Navratri where people used to enjoy through the Garba.
