According to folklore, Yamraj’s sister the Yamuna tried repeatedly to persuade her brother to visit her, but Yamraj struggled to do that for a lot longer. He was welcomed with a great celebration, given candies, and had the traditional tika put on his forehead when he eventually met her.

Yamraj bestowed a blessing on the Yamuna in gratitude for the affection and attention he received. She in response requested that he set aside a day each annum to attend her residence.   • Sisters and brothers should get up earlier on Bhai Dooj day, bathe, and change into fresh attire.
  •  Add a diya, roli-chawal, fruits, flowers, Moli, candies, and betel nuts to the pooja thali.
  • Use rice to draw a square on the surface.
  • As per the Shubh Muhurat, have your brother sit on the floor with his knees bowed and his head covered with a towel.
  • With such a burning diya, the sister would now do the aarti by spinning the pooja thali in front of him.
  •  Following the Pooja, the sister will rub Tilak on the brother’s forehead and present him with candies and fruits.
  •  Among brothers and sisters, gifts are often distributed.
