Combined Defense Services (I) and (II) Exam

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) holds the “Combined Defence Services” (CDS) Examination twice a year to enlist aspirants for the Indian Military Academy, Officers Training Academy, Indian Naval Academy, and Indian Air Force Academy. 

The CDS exam will be held twice a year, in February and September, by the UPSC. Applicants who want to serve their country by joining the military can begin applying for the CDS exam. Candidates must meet all of the Commission’s enrollment standards to apply online for the CDS examination. Candidates will indeed be chosen based on a written exam, accompanied by a question-and-answer session for cognitive and personality testing.

Eligibility criteria:

·   For admission to CDS (I) & CDS (II) 2022, candidates must be fit and able according to recommended physical standards.

·   A candidate who has stepped down or been dismissed from any of the Armed Forces’ training academies due to disciplinary reasons is ineligible to apply. 

·   Body modification tattoos are only allowed on the inner face of the forearm, from the inside of the elbow to the wrist, and on the back (dorsal) side of the hand. Permanent body tattoos on any part of the body will disqualify candidates from further consideration.

·   Tribes who have tattoos on their faces or bodies as part of their existing customs and traditions will be allowed on a case-by-case basis.

·   The Air Force is exempt from the compromises. The official notification only mentions height and weight requirements for the Army and Navy. Weights against height that aren’t specified can be interpolated.

·   For IMA & Officers’ Training Academy, Chennai – Degree of a recognized University or Equivalent.

·   For Indian Naval Academy – Degree in Engineering from a recognized University / Institution.

·   For Air Force Academy – Degree of a recognized University (with Physics & Mathematics at 10+2 Level) or Bachelor of Engineering.

·   Candidates who have chosen the Army, Navy, or Air Force as their first choice must present proof of graduation or provisional certificates at the SSB on the date the SSB Interview begins.

·   Candidates who are in the final year/semester of their degree program and have yet to pass their final year degree examination are eligible to apply, provided they do not have any backlogs up to the last semester/year for which results have been declared at the time of application submission, and they will be required to submit concrete evidence of having to pass the degree examination at the time start.

·   Candidates under the age of 25 must be single. During training, marriage is not permitted. Married candidates over the age of 25 are eligible to apply, but they will not be provided with married housing during the training period, nor will they be allowed to live with family outside of the premises.

Roles and Responsibilities:

·   If you are chosen for one of the branches of the armed forces, you will be set for the rest of your life.

·   Depending on which branch of the armed forces you join, your job can be difficult and demanding, so you must prepare yourself accordingly.

·   Candidates who pass out in the rank of designated person will be entitled to the pay and allowances associated with that rank after successfully completing Combined Defence Services training.
