Dhanteras Wishes
Dhanteras also known as Vasubharas marks the first day of the Diwali celebration.
In the Ashvini month of the Hindu calendar, it is observed on the thirteenth lunar day of Krishna Paksha (the dark fortnight). Dhanvantari, who is also honoured on the occasion of Dhanteras, is regarded as the Ayurvedic deity who gave the science of Ayurveda to mankind in order to improve it and lessen its suffering from illness. The “National Ayurveda Day,” which was first commemorated on October 28, 2016, was declared by the Indian ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy. To welcome the new year, Gujarati households typically eat daal Baath and malpua.
How Dhanteras Is Celebrated
The start of the Diwali holiday celebrations is signalled by Vasu Baras. The cow and her calf are revered on Vasubaras. The cow is highly revered in Vedic culture. She is revered as “Gau Mata” (mother cow) and raised with the highest respect. In all Hindu festivities, the name “Gau Mata” and her prasad, “Pancha Gavya” or “Panchamrut,” are frequently utilised. Dhanteras comes after Vasubaras.

Lord Dhanvantari is worshipped during Dhanteras. Hindu mythology claims that Lord Dhanvantari appeared during Samudra Manthan while carrying the sacred book of Ayurveda and a Kalasha full of Amrit, an Ayurvedic herbal mixture that bestows immortality. He is regarded as the Vaidya of the Gods.
When Diyas are lit in the evenings for Lakshmi Puja, the festival is celebrated. Bhajans, devotional songs in honour of Goddess Lakshmi, are sung when the Goddess is offered Naivedhya or traditional sweets. A strange tradition exists in Maharashtra where individuals softly pound cane sugar with dried coriander seeds and offer the concoction as Naivedhya.

On this day, Lord Dhanvantari, the god of health and Ayurveda, is worshipped in the evening. On Dhanteras, homes that haven’t been thoroughly cleaned in anticipation of Diwali are. To welcome the Goddess of Wealth and Prosperity, the main entryway is decorated with vibrant lanterns, festive lights, and traditional themes of Rangoli designs. Small footprints are made all over the house using rice flour and vermilion powder to signify her long-awaited arrival. Diyas (lamps) are ceremonially kept burning all night long on Dhanteras in honour of Lakshmi and Dhanvantari.
Hindus believe that today is incredibly fortunate for making new purchases, particularly of jewellery made of gold or silver and new kitchenware. A new “Dhan” (wealth) or a piece of jewellery made of precious metal is regarded as a lucky charm. Dhanteras is currently recognised as the most fortunate time to purchase gold, silver, and other metals, particularly kitchenware. The day also sees significant purchases of vehicles and appliances.

On this night, lights are set out every night in the form of diyas, which are placed in front of doorways of homes, sky lamps, offerings at the foot of a Tulsi plant, and other methods. To avoid an early death during the Diwali festival, this light is being offered to Yama, the Host of Death.
Significance
Goddess Lakshmi emerged from the ocean of milk on the day of Dhantrayodashi as the sea was being stirred. As a result, on the day of Trayodashi, people adore the goddess Lakshmi. The holy scriptures, however, claim that this worship is entirely a folktale that is not recorded anywhere in our holy writings. It is refuted in Shrimad Bhagavad Gita Adhyay 16 Shlokas 23 and 24.
A well-known myth states that on the day of Dhanteras, when the devas and asuras carried out the Samudra Manthan (ocean churning) for Amrita (the divine nectar of immortality), Dhanvantari (the healer of the Gods and a manifestation of Vishnu) appeared carrying a jar of the elixir.
Legend
The event is attributed to a fascinating tale involving the 16-year-old son of King Hima in old mythology. On the fourth day of his marriage, a snake bit him, as his horoscope had prophesied. His newlywed wife did not let him sleep that specific day. At the entrance to the sleeping chamber, she piled all of her ornaments and numerous gold and silver coins. She also lit numerous lamps. The next day, when Yama, the god of Death, appeared at the prince’s doorstep dressed as a serpent, his eyes were dazzled and blinded by the brilliance of the lamps and the jewellery. She then told stories and sang songs to prevent her husband from falling asleep.

Yama went to the top of the pile of gold money and spent the entire night there listening to the tales and songs because he was unable to enter the Prince’s chamber. He left in silence the next morning. So, thanks to his new bride’s cunning, the young prince were delivered from the grips of death, and the day became known as Dhanteras.
