What is an IRAS exam?
The Union Public Service Commission administers the Indian Railway Accounts Service (IRAS), which is a Civil Service or competitive exam in India. The exam is held in India to recruit for the Indian Railway Accounts Service. The Indian Railway Accounts Service (IRAS) is a Government of India Group ‘A’ Central Service. This service’s officers are in charge of the Indian Railways’ accounting and financial management. The Civil Services Examination, which is held every year by the Union Public Service Commission of India, is used to select candidates for the cadre.
What is the eligibility for becoming an IRAS Officer?
· The candidate must possess a Bachelor’s Degree from one of the UGC-accredited academic institutions or its equivalent.
· Applicants who have taken or are planning to take the certification exam and are awaiting results are also eligible to take the preliminary exam. Candidates must, however, submit proof of passing the said examination with their implementation for the Main Examination. Candidates with government-recognized professional and technical qualifications or equivalents are also eligible to apply.
· Candidates who have passed their final year of MBBS or any other medical examination but have not yet completed their internship can also take the Main Exam. Such candidates must submit a certificate from the relevant university with their Main Examination application.
· A candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 32 years on the 1st of August, the year of examination.
What are the different roles and responsibilities of an IRAS Officer?
· The Indian Railways’ Accounts and Finance department will be managed by IRAS officers.
· They will also provide the executive with financial advice.
· Modern financial management techniques are introduced.
· Control of the Exchequer Budget and accounting systems are being restructured.
· Expenses of traffic Workshop incentive schemes are being implemented.
What is the Exam Pattern for the IRAS exam?
The Civil Services Examination pattern was created to assess a candidate’s academic expertise as well as his or her ability to present oneself in a comprehensive and structured manner. The purpose of the exam is to evaluate the candidates’ overall cognitive traits as well as their level of understanding.
The UPSC Civil Services Exam is conducted in two stages namely, Prelims and Mains, which are then followed by an interview.
