About the day :
Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day (PAILRD) is a memorial day that is annually observed in the United States and Canada on October 15. In order to honor, commemorate and remember babies who have passed away due to miscarriage, stillbirth, neonatal death, and other causes of infant loss. The day was established in 2002.
History or background :
Robyn Bear, Lisa Brown, and Tammy Novak started the movement to tribute a day for infant loss by petitioning the federal government to recognize the specific day on October 15 for the babies who passed away before turning 1.
The House of Representatives eventually authorized National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day on September 28, 2006. President Ronald Reagan had already proclaimed October to be Pregnancy & Infant Loss Awareness Month. Day’s or week’s theme 2022: The overall theme of this year’s Baby Loss Awareness Week is “Stepping Stones.” After a miscarriage, life can go in unexpected directions.

The week also aims to share how the pregnancy and baby loss community is there for people every step of the way, during and after loss. We want everyone to know that you don’t have to navigate pregnancy loss alone.
Purpose of this day :
You don’t have to deal with pregnancy loss alone, and we want everyone to know that. The goal of today is: Increasing awareness, remembering, and showing support for the 1 in 4 people and families whose lives are reportedly irrevocably altered by the loss of their child(ren) during pregnancy, delivery, or infancy is the goal of this day. The day’s goals are to increase support for those in need. encourages conversation and pays tribute to the babies who have passed. Infant loss factors include: Infant mortality can be caused by a variety of factors, including infections, congenital abnormalities, and accidents.
Causes of Infant loss :
There are many different causes of infant mortality, from infection to birth defects or accidents. The leading causes of infant death are :
1. Birth defects.
2. Preterm birth and low birth weight.
3. Sudden infant death syndrome.
4. Injuries (e.g., suffocation).
5. Maternal pregnancy complications
Illegal activities with protected acts :
If a woman is pregnant, you cannot hire or fire her just because she is pregnant is against the law. It’s also against the law to pay her a lesser position because of pregnancy. It’s also against the law to hold back benefits for pregnancy because a woman is not married. These are pregnancy discrimination and all are illegal in nature.
A pregnant woman is protected under the Pregnancy Discrimination Act. It says that a company with at least 15 employees must be treated as equal to other employees with similar abilities and limitations.
The Family and Medical Leave Act also protects the jobs of pregnant women who are employed by companies with 50 employees or more and who have worked for the company for at least 12 months. These businesses are required to permit workers to take up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave for medical conditions, including pregnancy and childbirth. During these twelve weeks, your job cannot be transferred

Pink and blue ribbons are the official colors of the occasion, which is observed nationwide with candle marches and prayers. Losing an infant is excruciatingly painful, and it can have a serious negative impact on the mental health of bereaved parents and family members.
