Christianity has greatly influenced the Missionary Day Mizoram culture. To maintain a minimal degree of a secular environment and approach, the government accorded Christianity a special status in the state. According to the Mizoram administration, which includes Vanlalruata, the head of the political party People’s Representation for Identity and Status of Mizoram missionary HmasaBer, originally an anti-corruption group, Mizoram is a Christian state as of June 2018.

History Of Missionary Day

Sarang hamlet, other sections of the Lushai Hills, and the state of Mizoram were converted to Christianity thanks to the work of two Welsh missionaries, the Reverends Lorrain and Savidge. The Mizo people were taught to read in their native language by these missionaries, who also produced a Mizo-English dictionary. They imparted the Gospel to them, fundamentally altering their formerly animism-based way of life.

Even after British India expanded to embrace their region, the inhabitants of the Lushai Hills were only “loosely governed” since they had previously raided British crops in the lowlands to the south. However, everything started to change for good on January 11, 1894, when these two Presbyterian missionaries set out on their voyage.

Missionary Day in Mizoram was first observed by the Presbyterian Church there in 1974, and subsequently, the state government declared it a public holiday. On this day, many people attend special services, particularly in Presbyterian and Baptist churches, for prayer, worship, and remembering the blessings that God sent through the coming of the Gospel with Mizoram’s first two missionaries in 1894.

The missionaries Revs. J. H. Lorrain and F. W. Savidge travelled by boat from Assam to the then-Lushai nation of Mizoram on January 11, 1894, intending to bring Christianity to the area. The Mizos were largely converted to a new faith due to this. The missionaries founded the Baptist Church in the southern portion of the state and the Presbyterian Church in the northern half of Mizoram. The community will observe the day.
