National Girl Child Day – Every year on January 24, India commemorates National Girl Child Day. It was founded in 2008 by the Ministry of Women and Child Development and the government of India in order to raise public awareness about the inequalities that girls experience in Indian society. “As we celebrate our daughters’ achievements, we pledge to bridge the gender divide in order to build an inclusive and equal society,” said Smriti Irani. Several Union ministers have expressed their best wishes on the occasion, citing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government’s initiatives for “women-led development” at the Centre.
Jagat Prakash, president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), also extended his wishes, stating that the Centre is taking initiatives “to educate women and make them self-reliant”.
History
The ministry of women and child development established National Girl Child Day in 2008. The major goal is to emphasise the inequities that girls suffer, as well as to raise awareness about the rights of a female child and the importance of education, health, and nutrition. Celebrations for National Girl Child Day 2022
As part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the Ministry of Culture has organised an event called ‘Umang Rangoli Utsav’ on this day. Participants must create rangoli decorations in 50 different sites across India. A kilometre-long rangoli will be done on the streets and squares named for the country’s female independence fighters With the participation of Union Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Zubin Irani and Minister of State Munjpara Mahendrabhai, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually connect and felicitate the winners of the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar (PMRBP).
Girls who attend school are less likely to marry early and are more likely to live healthy, productive lives. They have greater salaries, are more involved in issues that affect them, and are able to establish better futures for themselves and their family. Education for girls enhances economies and decreases inequality. They attend school, assist with housekeeping, work in factories, establish friends, care for elder and younger family members, and prepare to assume the duties of adolescence.
