National Legal Service Day 

National Legal Service Day (NALSA) was established on 9 Nov 1995 under the act of legal service authority 1987. NALSA is situated at the supreme court of India. NALSA is headed by the chief justice of the supreme court of India. The history of NALSA started in 1952 when the government of India faces the question of legal aid for the poor.

In 1960, the government of India draw some guidelines for legal aid. In 1980, the committee named CILAS ( committee for implementing legal aid schemes ) was established under the chairmanship of the Hon’ble judge of the supreme court of India. the vital role of CILAS was monitoring legal aid activities in the country. The main purpose of this legal aid is to ensure equal justice and opportunities for the weaker sections of our community.

NALSA conduct lok adalats . it fulfills all the promises of Article 39A and Articles 14 and 22(1). Which gave the right to equal opportunities and equal justice to all citizens of India. Every year on November 9th, National Legal Services Day is marked to mark the beginning of the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987, which went into effect on that date in 1995. National Legal Service Day. State Legal Services Authorities across the nation hold legal awareness events on National Legal Services Day to inform people about the availability of free legal help. Additionally, every year campaigns are held across the country to inform the public of the many services offered by Legal Services Authorities.

Legal Awareness 

From October 2 through November 14, 2021, the India Legal Awareness and Outreach Campaign was started. It comprised door-to-door campaigns, legal awareness programs, awareness through mobile vans, and awareness through legal aid clinics. Additionally, “Legal Services Week” was commemorated from November 8 to November 14, 2021, during which 38 crore people were polled, interacted with, or informed of their rights. On November 9, 2021, which is Legal Services Day, National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) also organized a national-level event where the iOS version of the Legal Services Mobile Application was released and the online portal for submitting Legal Aid applications was made available in ten different languages.

All of the State Legal Services Authority (SLSAs) submit monthly activity reports to NALSA detailing all the activities completed during a specific month in order to track the performance of the legal services authorities. It also receives annual reports from all SLSAs.

     In the state, there is a state legal service authority that works for state legal aid. it follows the direction of NALSA and also conducts Lok Adalat in the state. similarly, in the district, there is a district legal service authority that works on the district level. the state legal service authority is headed by the Hon’ble chief justice of the particular state and in district legal service authority is headed by the district judge of the respective district. National Legal Service Day. NALSA gives funds to run these state and district authorities it also funds some NGOs which work for legal aid schemes and programs.

National legal service day is celebrated to remember the beginning of the legal service authority act, of 1987. To ensure that no citizen was denied the opportunity to get justice due to financial or other limitations, the Egal Services Authorities Act was passed to establish legal services authorities to provide competent and free legal services to the poorer parts of society.
