Once upon a time, there was a village called Champanagar. Their king Madhava And His Wife Laxmipati lived there. They had 8 children. 7 sons and 1 daughter. One day the king asked Nimitgyani when and to which king her Daughter Rohini will marry. To answer this question he said, Rohini will marry King Ashoka.

Rohini got married to King Ashoka And one day a monk came. King Ashoka asked why his wife always remains so quiet. To answer his question the monk started telling him a story.

Once upon a time, there was a girl named Dhurgandha. Men always rejected her due to the bad odor of her body. But she did end up marrying someone, who left her a week later due to her body odor.

Worried, her dad met another monk who was visiting the village about her daughter’s marriage. The monk answered that in part of their life her daughter was a queen and she feed bad meals to a famous monk which angered her husband and she eventually went to hell. Her daughter Dhurgandha is the reincarnation of that queen and serving for what she has done in her past life. So he asked the monk what can be done now, and the monk answered, she should do the Rohini fasting. Dhurgandha did the Rohini fasting and after death, she got placed as the number 1 goddess.

Monk ended the story and told Ashoka that her wife is the reincarnation of that girl Dhurgandha. After that Ashoka asked about himself and in return monk told him that Ashoka used to be lowly and disrespected a monk after that to pay for his sin he also did the Rohini fasting and now in his life, he is a king.
