Who Was Sudhir Suri

The self-styled leader in Punjab had at least six complaints filed against him, largely for hurting religious feelings and making casteist remarks, but he continued to receive security protection from the state.
He was well-known for his purportedly communal video messages on social media that targeted advocates of Khalistan and some Sikh organizations.
For “hurting public sensibilities and attempting to foster animosity between Hindus and Sikhs,” Suri was detained in November 2017.
According to the Punjab Police, Suri posted an offensive video through the Facebook account of his sidekick Happy Hardeep Sharma. Sharma was arrested in the same incident.
“They had offended religious feelings. In the interest of Punjab, such an action by anyone cannot be permitted, according to Amrik Singh Powar, deputy commissioner of police (DCP).
In 2020, 15 policemen were deployed for Sudhir Suri’s Security.
“Eight shooters, five police officers, and two drivers have been entrusted to him. He only has access to one police Gypsy pilot. But the security cover is insufficient. The Sena leader’s spokesperson Ranjit Singh had previously told the newspaper, “We have filed a petition in the Punjab and Haryana High Court requesting central government security support for Suri.
What Happened Before Sudhir Suri Was Shot
Less than an hour prior to being shot, Suri went live on Facebook and posted a video of some older heroes being “shamelessly discarded in the garbage.”
he declared in the video, “We would not allow such sacrilege, even if by fellow Hindus.”
He had reportedly gotten into a verbal altercation with a few men from Gopal Mandir’s management over the suspected vandalism of Hindu idols.
The police reported that Suri was on many gangsters’ hit lists and had been given a security detail of about eight Punjab Police officers.
Recent Atrocities In Punjab
Suri’s murder follows another prominent killing in the state, that of musician Sidhu Moose Wala.
Rapper Moose Wala from Punjab was shot and killed on May 29 after unknown gunmen assaulted his automobile. Fans all over the world had lamented his passing and his death had aroused indignation.
Just days before he was killed, Bhagwant Mann’s AAP government came under scrutiny for reducing his protection from four to two people. However, according to Punjab Police, none of those two commandos were there when the singer was assassinated, which they attributed to “gang rivalry.”
Now just after a few months after Moosewala’s death, Suri has also been shot by a gang which arose fear in the hearts of the people living in Punjab.
Oppositions Take
The head of the Punjab BJP, Ashwani Sharma, criticized the state’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) administration, claiming that “law and order have completely broken down in the state.”
Amarinder Singh ‘Raja’ Warring, the leader of the Punjab Congress, tweeted in response to the murder: “Law and order is failing and getting worse. The Shiv Sena leader’s murderous act in Amritsar is denounced by Congress. Violence is unacceptable, political differences apart. Criminals must be prosecuted.
Captain Amarinder Singh, a BJP leader and former chief minister of Punjab, pleaded with people to uphold peace. “We vehemently condemn the horrific killing of Shiv Sena leader Sudhir Suri today in Amritsar. I implore everyone to uphold peace and unity and work together to battle the enemies of Punjab. I hope those responsible are given exemplary punishment, even though it speaks poorly of Punjab’s law and order situation,” he said.
