Studies have shown that food festivals potentially improve social sustainability while also heavily supporting the tourism and hospitality industry where people came to attend food festivals around the world.

In view of the positive response to food safety and standard authority of India aim at institutionalizing the festival and creating a model for organizing the street food festival at the regional level across the country the festival also is an effort to send citizen street food vendors participating from across the country to save food practices and global hygiene and sanitation standard.

  • If we talk about the national street food festival objective then there are some highlights like more than 300  regional cuisines from all over India have been presented and showcased their food items. 
  • It’s showcasing its street food legends of the country where in stories tales of the famous food street will be reintroduced by the staller. An organic food Bazaar where organic farmers and companies from across the country will be selling their produce on all 3 days. 
  • Presents of various celebrity chefs, cultural program by renowned artist, Bhog blissful hygienic offering to God – by showcasing India’s famous worship place. 
  • A stall on fortified food where wide fortified food products will showcase for display.

Around 500 of the best street food vendors from across the country travel to Delhi to present their food stalls to the visitors of the festival. Organized by the National Association of Street Vendors of India, the goal of the event is to promote street food and to confirm the identity of street food vendors, which is closely linked with preserving and promoting the social and cultural diversity of India.

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is cooperating with the National Association of Street Vendors of India (NASVI). is hosting the 2023 National Street Food Festival. The three-day festival will be held from 13-15 January 2023 at the Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi.

Food Safety

FSSAI has primarily worked to build the capacity of street vendors through the Safe and Nutritious Food Campaign and to promote regional food heritage and food hubs across the country through the Indian Food Culture Initiative. The National Street Food Festival is part of this larger FSSAI initiative.

FSSAI co-hosted the National Street Food Festival in New Delhi with NASVI. The festival was notable for the large participation of street vendor communities across the country, adherence to safe hygiene practices by participants, and the large number of visitors over the three days it was held. It has truly become a landmark in Delhi’s annual social calendar and has also raised the bar for street vendors.

  • In this regard, training of street food vendors to provide safe and hygienic food to all was also carried out. Interactive contests, shows, lectures, and celebrations were held.

  • A total of 64 students and her 6 faculty members volunteered as food safety auditors during the event.
  • His 187 street vendors from his 16 states across India are registered with his FSSAI for the first time.
